I found it strange to get used to in the beginning because the other prison dramas I mentioned above all have storylines that go outside the prison (e.g. I enjoyed Oz's gritty setting and the fact that 99% of it is filmed in the prison. I've never watched Games of Thrones because the genre does not remotely interest me. I just don't get its popularity, a bit like Breaking Bad (yes I know, it's not HBO), although BB at least engaged me enough to watch it through to the end. Just too boring for me and I did try it twice. I enjoyed The Sopranos enough to watch it twice, but I enjoyed Boardwalk Empire even more. I think it's definitely my favourite multiple season HBO drama. I was going through a phase of watching prison dramas like Prison Break, Bad Girls (from the UK) and Wentworth (from Australia) and someone on the Digital Spy forum suggested Oz to me. Oz was the first ever HBO drama I watched, back in early 2014 (aged 21). If you are reading this and somehow haven’t watch it, it’s on Amazon Prime. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed my watch of the show. The general tone of the series just felt a little too silly for me. Glynn’s murder side story that frankly just didn’t need to happen. Some may like it, I see it as overkill, takes away from the individual deaths themselves. Said‘s death, Cyril, Keller, Vern and Jaz dying in the final episode. The show is over 20 years old so I don’t wanna harp on this point too much though.Īnd finally, my biggest complaint.the last season is pretty subpar. The biggest example I can think of is Hoyt killing Kirk (that whole scene is pretty laughable though). Sometimes the acting is.well pretty bad tbh. I feel like the last great character to be introduced is Cloutier, but guys like Redding and Morales are fine as well.
Also to a lesser extent, the prisoners introduced after season 4 are for the most part not memorable.
Whittlsley (or however you spell it) is not very interesting, and her departure from the show is barely felt (nothing against Edie Falco, she’s amazing on The Sopranos). McManus has his moments but is way too naive I feel to be running a prison like Oz. Glynn is cool, Claire Howard is a total bitch (so a lot of fun to watch) and Murphy plays a solid (somewhat) straight cop. Now I’ve praised this show so far, so.time to talk about what I didn’t like My personal top 5 has to be Adebisi, Said, Keller, Busmalis and Ryan O’Reily (although depending on the episode, maybe I’d switch out Busmalis and Oreily for Hill and Groves) But the characters are also interesting and just fun to see what the hell they’ll do next. The fact that the show takes place (almost) exclusively in the prison really drives the point home there’s no escaping Oz (well, unless you’re Busmalis or Alvarez, but they got brought back eventually lol)Įmerald City is the standout set of the show, and quite honestly, it’s the most memorable thing about the show. I love how the show has such a claustrophobic aesthetic, from the setting, to the cinematography, to the interactions between characters, everybody is on edge all the time, and it makes for some great viewing. 6x02 See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Smell No Evilįirst post here, finished Oz earlier this year, currently on season 6 of The Sopranos, and planning on watching The Wire after that (the three great HBO dramas if you will) aaaaaaaaaaand.I thought Oz was pretty great.I think I’ve enjoyed The Sopranos more so far but a lot of what makes The Sopranos so great can be attributed to Oz.Oz is hard times doing hard time.Ī subreddit for discussion and links regarding the HBO show Oz. You wanna punish a man? Separate him from his family, separate him from himself, cage him up with his own kind. That's the name on the street for the Oswald Maximum Security Penitentiary. In the Season 2 episode, "Jamie's Got a Gun," it is revealed that Jackson's father had performed experiments on Jackson, which caused Jackson to develop the Ghost Gene.Oz. Jackson was only 12 years old at the time. One example of this was when he asked Jackson if he wanted to buy a soul. However, Robert used to have some weird behaviors around his son.
As a child, he used to go with his father in weekend expeditions all over the country to study and observe animals. Jackson Oz is the son of doctor Elizabeth Oz and professor/scientist Robert Oz. He made sure that his TX gas formula would help them do that. My father always said that one day the animals would reclaim the planet.
